The challenge of seeing God and trusting him as a father has been like a tiny crack in a windshield for years for me. It seems minor until storms and bumpy roads come along and then you’re surrounded by shattered glass. The internal battle led me to open a fresh page in my notebook. Drawing a straight line down the middle and writing Heavenly Father on one side and Earthly Father on the other. I eagerly searched through all 150 chapters of the book of psalms to fill up the characteristics of God. And then on the other side, I struggled and the first 3 words that came to mind for my adopted father were Abusive, Abrasive, and Absent. The list went on and on for a father who didn’t protect his children but I won’t fall down the rabbit trail. Tearing up I took a looked at the list and realize this list impacted my relationship with seeing God as a father. If not dealt with our Daddy issues can lead us on the journey of self-sufficient. Many of us don’t realize it but we have become our own parents. Which means we try to figure everything out. We don’t mean it but we become self-sufficient. And Subconsciously we think we don’t need anybody and BOOM! before we know it Pride has rolled into the picture. When we think we can handle everything we steal the glory from God. We begin to serve what’s been created versus the creator. We turn down one of the greatest relationships God offers. The child-parent relationship. There is so much love, patience, understanding, support, mercy, redemption, and much more that comes with this relationship. God wants us to delight in his love. He wants us to live simple.
If you are feeling emotions around reading this it may be time to surrender your independence of self. Are you ready to see God outside of being Lord and welcome him as a father? Here’s the secret ingredient come close hahaha it’s no secret its prayer. Only God can heal our hearts and minds from the trauma endured which has impacted how we see God. Prayer is the way we can get all our emotions out. If you have to cry it’s okay. Maybe getting your notebook and making the same list for yourself can help you see the areas you need to pray about. Writing is a great tool to get those emotions out. Crying out to God allows us to heal our heart and give us an exchange of what we need .Because only God our creator know us enough to supply our every need. I think therapy is a great accessory to this journey. Because God encourages us to seek wise counsel. I feel like God is saying Daugther and Son I want to be in charge I want you to trust me with it all. I want to be there every step of the way. You don’t have to come to me perfectly just come to me.
Can I pray for you friend?
God can you help us to see you as a father. Lord can you help us experience you as a father. Lord can you change our hearts and our mind. Father can you guide us and teach us how to be children again. Lord help us to surrender everything we think we have to hold on to. Lord take away our unbelief and replace it with full trust in you without leaning on our understanding. Lord baptize us in your holy spirit. Lord let us release everything that makes us self sufficient. Lord thank you for everything you are doing thank you for WHO YOU ARE. Thank you, Lord, for loving us unconditionally. Thank you for being the father we never realized we had. Thank you for never giving up. Thank you Dad
If you haven’t accepted Jesus in your heart and you would like to, here’s a prayer you can pray and get connected to a local church.
Lord Jesus, for too long I’ve kept you out of my life. I know that I am a sinner and that I cannot save myself. No longer will I close the door when I hear you knocking. By faith, I gratefully receive your gift of salvation. I am ready to trust you as my Lord and Savior. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for coming to earth. I believe you are the Son of God who died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead on the third day. Thank you for bearing my sins and giving me the gift of eternal life. I believe your words are true. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, and be my Savior. Amen. This prayer is from Dr.Ray Pritchard found
