Hating The Crime Loving The Criminal

Let’s just jump in. I dont hate Child Molesters”. Before crossing me off your favorite blogger’s list hear me out. For over 7 years I’ve searched through the Bible looking to justify my hatred for my adopted father. I challenged God on why I had to love a man who denied me of being his daughter so he could call me his girlfriend.  I questioned how anyone like him could deserve love. Searching through the bible I was met by the theme of unconditional love. Being super honest this angered me because I wanted to hate him.

A few years ago I saw a movie. I dont remember the title or even the plot of the movie but I remember these seven words.   Don’t Hate the Criminal Hate the Crime. As Christians, we are called to love no matter what. Love isn’t being around someone every day. Love is giving when it seems undeserving. Love requires us to differentiate the criminal vs the crime.  This is a process in which God has to take the lead. I normally dont really write about current news headlines but I felt led to talk about the popular R&B singer Robert Kelly aka R- Kelly.  Right now there are many Sexual Abuse allegations against him. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but for me, I feel in my spirit he is guilty. When you have lived with a pedophile you begin to learn how they operate. Discernment is real.  Back to the point.  Many people are wishing death and praying bad things to happen to him.  Even people who love the lord. I dont agree with this, for the simple fact, my bible says differently.

A few years ago if you would have asked me about R-Kelly I would have said he should burn in hell and rot in jail. However, jail doesn’t heal people; jail revokes access to the public.  Rotting in hell only breaks the heart of Jesus.  Someone going to hell doesn’t make God happy. God wants people to transform, delivered, set free. Only Jesus can heal the wicked desires of someone heart. And the person must be willing.  Time doesn’t change people; neither does harsh man-made consequences.  I want to make it clear I’m not saying people shouldn’t go to jail or have consequences.  We just need to always pray for these people. Below are scriptures which helped me to make my decision.

Why  I No Longer Hate Child Molesters:

1.Love our Enemies: Luke 6: 27-32

27 “But to you who are willing to listen, I say, love your enemies! Do good to those who hate you. 28 Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you. 29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, offer the other cheek also. If someone demands your coat, offer your shirt also. 30 Give to anyone who asks; and when things are taken away from you, don’t try to get them back. 31 Do to others as you would like them to do to you.

32 “If you love only those who love you, why should you get credit for that? Even sinners love those who love them! 33 And if you do good only to those who do good to you, why should you get credit? Even sinners do that much! 34 And if you lend money only to those who can repay you, why should you get credit? Even sinners will lend to other sinners for a full return.

2. Venges Belongs to God: 1 Peter3:9/ Romans 12:9

Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will grant you his blessing.

3. Judging Belong to God: Hebrews 10:30

30 For we know him who said, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” and again, “The Lord will judge his people.”

4.Forgiveness: Mark 11:25

But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too.

5.The Real Emeny: Ephesians 6:12

12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood,(A) but against the rulers, against the authorities,(B) against the powers(C) of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.(D)

If you haven’t accepted Jesus in your heart and you would like to here’s a prayer you can pray and get connected to a local church.

Lord Jesus, for too long I’ve kept you out of my life. I know that I am a sinner and that I cannot save myself. No longer will I close the door when I hear you knocking. By faith, I gratefully receive your gift of salvation. I am ready to trust you as my Lord and Savior. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for coming to earth. I believe you are the Son of God who died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead on the third day. Thank you for bearing my sins and giving me the gift of eternal life. I believe your words are true. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, and be my Savior. Amen. This prayer is from Dr.Ray Pritchard found
